I Tried

Sorry, CQ, I have been trying my darnedest to get a new picture posted on this blog. It just doesn't love me anymore. I am assuming that it is the firewall doing its job really well, again... but I am not disabling it to find out for sure... So, since Blogger won't let me go back to old blogger, I guess there is one less blogger. So frustrating, but at least I don't have to feel guilty about not posting.

Inspired Again!

Interweave Knits has their spring preview up.

Could this possibly be the most beautiful sweater, ever?

If I start now, do you think the Mister might have it by December 25th-ish?

Wouldn't it be wonderful if all my men had a sweater like this?

Stop me before I go crazy! Wait! My copy hasn't arrived in my mailbox, yet. I have time.

You Give Me Fever

I love Prince

He is an amazing artist.
What was with the marching band? The marching band with halloween glow lights?

Ok, I could get the -it's a football field, it needs a marching band.
Or, an allusion to the Beatles (the marching band refused to yield.)
Or, maybe he just liked the way Proud Mary sounded with a sousaphone.

What ever it was. I enjoyed seeing Prince at the Super Bowl. He is still funky and fun and outrageous.

No School today.

Which is ok. We have been feverish here at Chez Mayhem since Thursday. Eldest, of course, passed it to INBA. I was going to keep Eldest home one more day, anyway. Now he doesn't get marked off for attendance. And you know it does matter in 1st grade. heh.
You know why school was canceled?
It's cold.
Sissies.
It was 0.
I remember being sent outside by the teacher to check the thermometer (stuck in a snowbank outside the classroom door) to see if it was less than 0. If it was, we had indoor recess. If not, out we went. Here, it dips below 40 and they have indoor recess. I remember having to wait for the bus when it was 10 and 15 degrees below zero. Here, it is going to only get up to 5 degrees today, we better stay home. Bah.
I am not claiming that I liked the unrelenting cold. I got the hell out of northern Michigan at the first opportunity, went to the temperate west coast. I have no desire to live up there again, or anywhere else with a winter colder than 50 degrees. But since I now do, I can say... put on a flipping coat and some warm socks and a hat. Oh, and put some on your kids, too. I don't suppose they would be so cold if they were waiting for the bus with a jacket on. I wouldn't bring it up if I didn't see this on a regular basis.

Congratulations

One last nod to the Indianapolis Colts. Congratulations on winning the big game.

Plain Regular Blue Rebellion

Blog Me, Mommy!

Who could deny this face?

Oh, and can I say how much better 5 is?
Night and day.

He is posing with his dog mug. Aunt Peggy gave him that for either his (4th) birthday or Christmas. (it is all the same week, give me a break) He loves this mug. It is the only mug he will use without complaint.

Onto Rebellion

Ok, maybe that is a bit of an exaggeration.
I did, however, very much enjoy knitting with not-plain-regular-blue.
This is Bramble by Manos del Uruguay. They are mittens with the help of Ann Bud's the knitter's book of patterns. The picture does no justice to the color which is much more cranberry dominated, but the cerulean blue is absolutely gorgeous and the color of the perfect sky. Not plain, not regular.
I had to add a couple of rows between the ribbing (which I made on less stitches than recommended and increased to recommended at the beginning of stockinette) and making the thumb gusset.
The problem that I had with the gloves that I made was the ribbing riding up onto my palm. My mom likes the gloves, they fit her well.
The mittens do not ride. The cuff is snug, too. I love my new mittens.

This is not blue, either. It is Classic Yarns Soft Tweed in Sprig. Ok, there are speckles of blue. But mostly it is green, soft sagey green. Which also doesn't photograph well.
And yes, I am making #32 in the February Knit 'N Style. I think I am going to put buttons on it. I have some buttons that will look fab with this yarn.
Nothing is ever perfect, is it?

I had to stop fondling the Socks that Rock that Laurie brought me from MSW last spring. The color way is Lemongrass and apparently reluctant to show its real beauty to my camera, too. (It is the yarn, not me. I swear.)
I am using the diamond rib pattern from Sensational Knitted Socks by Charlene Schurch.

This is, of course, in anticipation of the Rockin' Sock Club.

Were you thinking about designing a shawl for someone special to make with some fabulous yarn that you gifted to that special person?

And then there is this.

Beautiful.

Think we can copy and make better?

What about those beads? I think beads would be beautiful.

I haven't ever knit with beads.

Think about it.
